Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

General Information

1. What is a mountain coaster?

A mountain coaster is a gravity-driven ride that follows a winding track down a mountainside. Riders control their speed using a manual brake system, allowing for a thrilling or more leisurely descent. Unlike traditional roller coasters, mountain coasters use the natural terrain for an immersive outdoor experience.

2. How does a mountain coaster work?

Riders are secured in a cart that is pulled up the mountain using a cable system. Once at the top, gravity takes over, and riders can control their speed using hand brakes. The track is designed with curves, dips, and turns to maximize fun while ensuring safety.

3. How fast does the mountain coaster go?

Carts on the Brush Creek Holl’r mountain coaster can reach speeds up to 30 mph. However, riders have control over their speed using the braking system.

4. How long is the ride?

Total ride time is 5 to 8 minutes depending on how fast you choose to go. Total length of the track is 3200 feet.

5. Is the mountain coaster open year-round?

Brush Creek Hollr Mountain Coaster operates year-round, including during winter. Our carts have canopies which can be installed during wet or cold weather to provide some protection from precipitation and cold winds. Check our website before visiting as we may close during extreme weather conditions.

6. What is the difference between a mountain coaster and an alpine slide?

A mountain coaster runs on a fixed track, whereas an alpine slide consists of a trough in which riders control their sled. Mountain coasters tend to be safer as the track prevents the cart from leaving the rails.

As long as riders follow the rules, the experience is very safe. The full length of the track is inspected each morning before opening. We suspend operation of the ride for inspection and troubleshooting in the event of problems or unusual behavior. Please bear with us in the event your ride is delayed as a result of a safety-related hold.

Yes! Each rider has a hand brake system to control their speed. You can go fast for a thrill or slow down for a scenic ride. The coaster control system keeps cart speed to a maximum of 30 miles per hour.

18. Do I have to use the brakes?

Our carts have a break release – two handles which the primary rider/driver pushes forward – to allow the cart to move down the track more quickly. Brakes are engaged as the driver allows the handles to move back to the default position. Riders may keep the handles all the way forward (brakes fully disengaged) for the full length of the ride, but riders should use them if they want to slow down or maintain a comfortable speed. Automatic braking systems will engage if needed for safety.

Comfortable outdoor clothing and closed-toe shoes are recommended. Avoid wearing loose scarves, long skirts, or any accessories that could get caught in the equipment. In winter, dress warmly, including gloves and a hat.
